Tayport welcomed West Region outfit Kirkintilloch Rob Roy to the Canniepairt today. Rob Roy will be forever associated with the romance of the Scottish Cup, having been finalists on eight occasions. The Rabs most recent final appearance came in 1977. Their last triumph was 41 years ago after a replay with Renfrew. Port knew they had to be at their best to see off The Rabs and started strongly with Gareth Dailley going close in 5 minutes closely followed by a Derek Wemyss strike hitting the upright.. Port continued to press during the opening 20 minutes showing great commitment. 35 minutes and a corner from the left found a J Ward  header sneaking past the Right upright. This was Ports best opportunity. From that point on The Rabs defence was sound  and held off Ports late first half challenge. The second period was a low key affair for the Port support with the Rabs showing some good defensive qualities and having their share of opportunities around the Port goalmouth without stretching keeper Fitzpatrick. Next weeks replay and Tayport will have to show some of their good away form if they are to proceed to the next round. This could be a match not to miss.
